Capstone Event

Psychology-Engaged Theology Conference, August 18-19, 2025

In August 2025, we held a Psychology-Engaged Theology Conference, in conjunction with the International Association for the Psychology of Religion.  This was the “capstone event” for our cross-training programme, and enabled those who had been involved in the programme (team members, theologian Fellows, and psychologist Mentors) to engage with other psychologists and/or theologians who were interested in the topic of Psychology-Engaged Theology.

The programme featured:

  • Insights from our theologian Fellows and the psychologist Mentors who they worked with during the course of their psychology-engaged theology projects
  • poster sessions featuring the research that the Fellows conducted during the course of their psychology-engaged theology projects
  • discussion of successes and lessons learned from running a training programme of this kind
  • discussion of what is next for the field of Psychology-Engaged Theology

In addition, there were keynote speeches from:

  • Dr Shoko Watanabe, discussing the results of an empirical project investigating possible barriers to engagement across the fields of psychology and theology
  • Rev Dr Joanna Collicutt, discussing the intersection of psychology and theology (joint keynote with IAPR)

Perhaps most importantly, the convergence of the Psychology-Engaged Theology conference and IAPR conference allowed for interested psychologists and theologians to discuss topics of mutual interest and learn about others’ research.
