Dr. Christopher Lloyd is a Lecturer in Psychology (Assistant Professor) at the University of Westminster London and part of the Centre for Psychological Sciences. He is a HCPC registered Counselling Psychologist and engages in academic research, supervision, and clinical practice. He is an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society (AFBPsS).
He has a particular expertise and qualitative research methods having published with Thematic Analysis, Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis, and Discourse Analysis. He also has a particular interest in Story Completion. His research focuses on experiences of mental health and Christian faith. His research explores the intersection between religious and spiritual understandings of mental illness, specifically amongst Christian communities and how these might impact on individual and collective wellbeing. A principal aim of his work is to understand, interrogate, and break down religious mental health stigma so that people who experience mental illness can be better supported. This has included exploring helpful and unhelpful factors associated with belief in demonic agents and their perceived role in mental illness, spiritual interventions for mental illness in church communities and leading on a large-scale qualitative meta-synthesis of experiences of mental illness in Christian faith communities.
Dr. Lloyd regularly reviews specialist academic papers in the field and is often called upon to review qualitative manuscripts which address sensitive religious and spiritual topic areas.
