Dr. Tobias Tanton was accepted onto a new fellowship program (funded by the John Templeton Foundation) for cross-training in the psychology of (non)religion for theologians. The program brings fellows together with cognitive scientists and psychologists to consider the question: “How can spiritual yearning (in nonreligious individuals) be operationalized and measured?” This program on "awe-some spirituality" focuses on the role of awe (the yearning for, understanding of, and experience of) as a vehicle of spirituality. You can read more about the fellowship here.
The title of Dr. Tanton’s new project is “Spiritual Yearning and Nature-Elicited Awe.” Dr. Tanton has stated, "The project very much dovetails with, and is enabled by, the project from my Birmingham fellowship […] The ability to write a successful application for this (new) fellowship was due in no small part to the skills and insights picked up during the course of the current project."
Congratulations, Tobias!
