On November 20, 2024, Dr. Carolina Montero Orphanopoulos convened a specialized panel, Abuse in Ecclesial Contexts: Its Particularities and Specific Harms, as a significant outcome of her ongoing fellowship project. This gathering hosted 25 invited experts, including forensic psychologists, lawyers, theologians, clinical psychologists, sociologists, and representatives from ecclesial organizations dedicated to supporting victims and survivors. Panelists presented findings from three quantitative and qualitative studies conducted in North America and Chile, which examined the unique moral, spiritual, and psychological harms associated with abuse in ecclesial contexts. This conversation was designed to foster dialogue among experts, advancing a nuanced understanding of the profound impact of such abuses, with implications for policy, support practices, and ethical frameworks within ecclesial settings.
